“Every time I get ahead, something happens” a friend said. The day she made her last car payment, she had an accident that totaled her car. A neighbor cashed his paycheck, went into a public restroom, and then left his wallet. He went back to the restroom; the wallet was there, but the money was not.
Why do those things happen? I believe scripture gives us the reason. Let’s look at the book of Judges, in chapter 6. This chapter details the antagonistic relationship between the Israelites and the Midianites.
The Midianites were a militant group of people that hated the Israelites. They watched as the Israelites plowed their fields, planted and watered their seeds and nurtured the tender young plants. But when it was harvest time, they stormed in and took the crops. When they were finished, it looked like a swarm of locusts had devoured the fields. They repeated the same activity with the cattle.
They watched as the cattle birthed and nursed their young, but after they were weaned, they stormed in and took the cattle. Judges 6:1 says the Lord delivered them (Israelites) into the hands of their enemies because of idolatry. In other words, God withdrew his protection from the Israelites because of their sin. When he withdrew his protection, the enemy stole their livelihood.
Judges 6:6 says, ........Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the Lord.Notice the verse said they cried unto the Lord. Are you tired of the enemy stealing from you every time you things seem to be going well? Cry out to the Lord and he will save you!
