How to Overcome Unbelief

Unbelief is the antithesis to faith. It is a form of distrust foreign to saints of old who trusted God’s testimony, that is His sworn word. Where does unbelief come from? And how do we overcome it?

Four causes of unbelief:
The devil blinds the mind:
2 Corinthians 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

2 Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

The devil takes the word out of the heart:
Luke 8:11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

Luke 8:12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.

Your heart is Slow to believe the word:

Luke 24:25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken

How to tell if unbelief is operating in your life:
You question God’s Power:

Psalms 78:19 Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?

You reject evidence of miracles or God's winks:
John 12:37 But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:

You are departing from God:

Hebrews 3:12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

How to overcome unbelief:

Pray for help:
Mark 9:23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

Mark 9:24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
