Jesus The Gift that Keeps on Giving!

Something important to remember this holiday season is that God was so excited about giving us Jesus Christ as a gift, that he started spreading the word about it 700 years before it happened.( Isaiah 7:14 and Isaiah 9:6) Wait, on second thought He actually started telling the world about Jesus’ birth much earlier than that, as He mentioned it in Genesis chapter 3.

In the book of Genesis Adam and Eve committed high treason shortly after they were created. They were enticed to commit high treason by Satan the god of death (Hebrews 2:14). Before they were created Satan  attempted to storm the gates of heaven to remove God from His throne to crown himself as king of heaven. (Isaiah 14:12-14) He even convinced a host of angels to join him and he apparently assumed the new beings would gladly join the rebellion as well, and they did.

Picture Satan (God’s enemy) telling Eve, "Did God really tell you not to eat from every tree in the garden?"

“We may eat from all the trees except the one in the middle of the garden. He said don't eat it and don't touch it."

“You will not die. God doesn’t want you to eat the fruit because He knows the moment you eat it, your eyes will be opened, and  you will be as “gods” knowing good and evil.”

"You know what? I think you may be on to something. Look at this fruit it is beautiful. How can it be deadly?"

She took a bite of the fruit and waited to see if she would die. Realizing she was still alive, she turned to Adam and said, “Here take a bite, the Serpent is right, we won’t die if we eat the fruit. In fact we will become gods. We can make our own rules and laws. We don’t need God to tell us what’s right or wrong.”

You know the rest of the story, Adam ate the fruit.

Perhaps, God looked at Jesus and said, “They’ve done it. They believed the serpent's word instead of mine, and now they have become as one of us, to know good and evil.”  Unfortunately, the serpent did not tell them they would know good and evil by experiencing it!

Instead of living a life in paradise free from sickness, pain, premature death from accidents, murder, suicide, sexual assault and all forms of evil. They will now experience good things in life but their lives will be tainted with painful detrimental experiences.

Adam and Eve joined enemy forces and would suffer the consequences.

Now, the shadow of death would follow Adam and Eve throughout their lives. One important thing they did not know about their new ally is that he had been judged and sentenced to spend eternity  imprisoned in hell to be tortured and tormented for treason . And since they formed an alliance with him they would receive the same punishment.(Matthew 25:41)

Since God is just and knew they joined the resistance via deception, He decided to pardon them on one condition (we'll discuss that shortly) but first he had to rectify/sever the ties the woman had with her new ally. So He set enmity between the serpent and the woman. No, she and Satan would not be allies but enemies. They would be at war with each other, instead of partnering in war against Him.

Not only was the woman at war with the serpent but with her husband. She would have a constant desire to rule and control him but he would resist her efforts to dominate him. (Genesis 3:16)What a sad state of affairs for the woman and her husband.

Yet, God would be gracious to them and bless them with a child. Mary would be the second Eve
(Eve means life giver) and she would give birth to a man child who would reverse their deadly decision. Although they were told to subdue the earth they were subdued and became subject to the god of death. (Hebrews 2:14)

They would fear death and partake of the Serpents sinful nature but the woman’s Seed would change all of that. It wouldn’t be easy but the the woman’s Seed would deliver them from the god of death.

Via divine providence the serpent would wound the Seed’s heel. But the Seed would crush the serpent’s head. The man child would die from a bloody, gory death in exchange for their pardon. His death would be temporary but the serpent's defeat would be permanent! (NKJV Bible Commentary)

The Cost of Treason

Adam and Eve were told "the day you eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, you will die. (Genesis 2:16-19). At that moment death reigned in their mortal bodies of mankind. Their souls would live forever but where?

Will they spend eternity in hell with the serpent and the once holy, but now unholy angels. Or will they spend eternity on earth in the new paradise with God and their Redeemer? (Revelation 21:1-27 and Isaiah 65:17-25)

Again, for a second time mankind has been given a choice. Will they believe God when He says, the soul that sins shall die and the only way to inherit eternal life/ new life in paradise is to accept the gift of His dear Son. (Luke 23:43)

Or will Adam and Eve’s children believe Satan’s lies like their parents. Will they believe Satan’s lie when he says Hell is not real and if it is real God is too good to send people there? Will they believe Satan when he says, there is no God? Will they believe that Jesus Christ was just a man and not the son of the living God. Thereby rejecting the only means of Salvation. Don’t believe Satan’s lies but believe the living word spoken to us in scripture.

Let’s thank God this Holiday Season for the gift He gave the world, Jesus the Christ?

Let’s remember how much God loves us by contemplating on the announcement the angels gave the shepherds in the field on the night of Christ’s birth. The angels said, “Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.

And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.

And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. (Luke 2:10-18).

Fear not my friends for unto us a Savior is Born!
